Empowered by Identity

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Genesis 1:27-28

IdentityIdentity theft is on the raise. Shady characters sort through our trash and junk mail, pilfer credit card numbers and bank account information, and break into our email and Facebook accounts. All for the purpose of taking our credible identity and using it for their own gain, damaging and soiling it in the process.

Here at RCF, we recognize that this identity theft problem didn’t begin with the internet or the advent of credit cards, but dates back to the very first people. Those first two individuals were carefully and lovingly shaped by God with His own hands to be in His image, heirs to His love and grace. But, a shady character snuck in and made them believe they where less than God saw them to be, made them believe that they need to disobey God in order to earn His love and respect.

As a result, we now carry around broken identities, taking on labels like “addict”, “hopeless”, “pervert”, “thief”, or “victim”.  We are branded as failures, mediocre, never quite living up to the standard. But this not how God sees us – He sees us as he made us:

Children of God ( Romans 8:16 )

Heirs of God and Fellow Heirs with Christ ( Romans 8:17 )

Kings and Priests ( Revelation 5:10 )

Chosen people, a Royal Priesthood, a Holy Nation ( 1 Peter 2:9 )

Made in His Image ( Genesis 1:27 )

The people of RCF know the importance of knowing and living in the truth of God’s identity for us and not the broken identity given to us by an equally broken world. We also see it as part of our mission to restore that identity in the hearts of God’s people in the Kennebec Valley.
